What is IQOS?

IQOS is a tobacco heating system using HeatControl™ technology.
Due to the HeatControl™ tobacco is heated instead of being burnt, and nicotine is released without fire, smoke, or ash.

IQOS HeatControl™ technology

The IQOS HeatControl™ technology was developed and patented specially to monitor and control the temperature of the IQOS heating blade.
The heating blade is made from ceramics with elements made from platinum, gold, and silver. Using IQOS HeatControl™ technology, tobacco sticks are heated up to 350°C.

The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) concluded that based on available scientific evidence:

IQOS heats tobacco but does not burn it.

The absence of combustion significantly reduces the production of harmful or potentially harmful chemicals.

Scientific studies show that switching completely from cigarettes to IQOS significantly reduces your body’s exposure to harmful or potentially harmful chemicals.*

The science

Over 430 scientists and engineers have worked on developing and testing the IQOS technology at PMI’s Global Research and Development Center in Switzerland.
Over 340 scientific publications have been reviewed since 2008. The research is performed continuously to improve smoke-free products.
Over 4 600 patents have been granted, and approximately
6 300 are pending.
