Changes in the anti-tobacco legislation

Dear customer,
We would like to inform you about the entry into force of the new provision of the law on tobacco products and the substitutes to the latter.

On March 15, 2022, the ban on the use of all types of tobacco products and substitutes in open-closed restaurants, bars, other food establishments, hotels, shopping centers, closed public and work areas came into force in Armenia.

Violation of the restriction prohibited by law causes a fine:

  • Towards an official: 150 000 - 200 000 AMD,
  • Towards an individual: 50 000 AMD.

The control of this provision is carried out by the RA Police.1

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CIGARETTES AND TOBACCO HEATING SYSTEMS?

Regardless of the fact that the anti-tobacco law "equates" the tobacco heating systems with cigarettes, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!

In contrast to cigarettes, IQOS does not burn the tobacco. Instead, it heats the tobacco to a much lower temperature. Hence the differences between cigarettes and this particular tobacco heating system.

Difference 1. Cigarette emits smoke and IQOS emits aerosol (vapor)

IQOS emits 95% less harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.2

At least 69 chemicals in tobacco smoke are carcinogenic, and cigarette smoking accounts for at least 30 percent of all cancer deaths․ Exposure to secondhand smoke irritates the airways and has immediate harmful effects on a person’s heart and blood vessels. It increases the risk of heart disease by an estimated 25 to 30%․ Secondhand smoke exposure contributes to approximately 41,000 deaths among nonsmoking adults each year․3

Difference 2. IQOS poses less of a health risk to you and your loved ones than continuing to smoking.

IQOS has extensive and robust clinical evidence showing that using IQOS presents less risk to your health than continuing to smoke.4

Our study shows that, because IQOS does not burn tobacco and it does not generate smoke, it does not negatively impact indoor air quality.5

Difference 3. Cigarettes produce tar – IQOS doesn’t.

Tar is the residue from smoke after a cigarette is burned. Contrary to cigarettes, IQOS produces aerosol residue that is fundamentally different from tar and consists of significantly lower levels of harmful chemicals.

IQOS does not produce tar, because it heats the tobacco instead of burning it by delivering nicotine, the true taste and satisfaction of real tobacco. Meanwhile, the main cause of smoking-related issues is not nicotine, but the burning process and tar.6

Over 400 scientists and engineers at the PMI R&D Center in Switzerland have been developing and testing IQOS for 12 years, moving towards a new smoke-free future. The company's vision is that one day the smoke-free products will completely replace cigarettes.

2 «95% less» represents the average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to smoke of the reference cigarette. In does not necessarily equal a 95% reduction in risk.
Important information:IQOS is not risk free. It provides nicotine which is addictive.
