IQOS HAS NO NEGATIVE IMPACT ON INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Temperature, humidity and contaminants are some of the factors that can affect the indoor air quality. But, human presence and activities such as cooking, cleaning or smoking have been proven to have considerable impact.

How do cigarettes affect air quality?

Cigarettes significantly affect air quality. Cigarettes produce tar which is the residue from smoke after a cigarette is burned. Moreover, cigarettes produce high amounts of carbon monoxide while being burnt.

At least 69 chemicals in tobacco smoke are carcinogenic, and cigarette smoking accounts for at least 30 percent of all cancer deaths․ Exposure to secondhand smoke irritates the airways and has immediate harmful effects on a person’s heart and blood vessels. It increases the risk of heart disease by an estimated 25 to 30%․ Secondhand smoke exposure contributes to approximately 41,000 deaths among nonsmoking adults each year․ 1

Cigarette smoke is instantly absorbed into hair, hands and clothing. This smell settles for a long time, and it is very difficult to remove. At home curtains, carpet, soft furniture and even wallpapers quickly begin to absorb the smell of cigarettes. It's the same in the car. And if you have ever been in a hotel room for smokers, then you know what this is about. The old smell of cigarette smoke "greets” already from the doorway.

How does IQOS affect air quality?

To enhance our knowledge and understanding the impact of IQOS on indoor air quality we conducted studies simulating “real-world” conditions in an environmentally controlled room.1

Our study shows that, because IQOS does not burn tobacco and it does not generate smoke and it drastically reduces levels of harmful substances like carbon monoxide, it does not negatively impact indoor air quality. This means that the few compounds we nevertheless detected were found at very low concentrations and far below the maximum exposure levels defined in existing air quality guidelines.

IQOS has extensive and robust clinical evidence2 showing that using IQOS presents less risk to your health than continuing to smoke. To demonstrate this, we conducted a comprehensive assessment program that included 10 clinical studies on aerosol chemistry (as well as data from 18 non-clinical studies), and involved thousands of participants in the US, Japan, UK and Poland. Evidence demonstrates that switching completely to IQOS, while not risk-free, presents less risk of harm compared with continuing to smoke cigarettes.

IQOS usage in a car

No smell of smoke
While using IQOS there is no steady smell, as is the case with cigarettes. IQOS does not burn tobacco, therefore there is no smoke. Yes, the aerosol has its own smell, but it has nothing to do with the cigarette. It disappears quickly and does not absorb into surfaces - furniture, car interior coverings, curtains.

No combustion and damaged items

IQOS does not burn tobacco, but heats it. There is no fire at all, as well as risk of accidentally starting a fire with the heated stick. It is impossible to burn the curtains, soft furniture or car seats with a stick. Used sticks, unlike cigarette residues, do not burn or smolder, they can even be safely thrown into a trash can.

No ash
There is no ash while using IQOS, which means there is no risk of getting yourself and everything around you dirty. Drivers know, no matter how carefully to try to smoke in the car, the ashes will start scattering everywhere and stain the interior and passengers. The same at home. Even if you smoke next to an ashtray, ash can scatter. Anyway, an ashtray filled with cigarette residues and ashes smells unpleasant and does not look aesthetically pleasing. There are no such complications with IQOS. There is no burning, so there is no ash either. Even if you use IQOS through an open window against the wind, no ash will come inside. And, of course, there is no need to shake anything off during use, and the used stick can even be put back into the pack.

No second-hand smoke

IQOS produces no smoke or secondhand smoke. Instead, it produces an aerosol that contains significantly less harmful substances.

IQOS emits on average 95% lower levels of harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.3

Switching completely to IQOS is less harmful for you and those around you compared to continued smoking.
